Mission Statement: Community Service through Professional Law Enforcement

The goal of the West Yellowstone Police Department is to work closely with local residents to prevent and solve crime. The Police Department is staffed by twelve people including the Police Chief, five Police Officers, five dispatchers, and one dispatcher/animal control officer. The department provides law enforcement and protection for the Town of West Yellowstone seven days a week, twenty–four hours a day. The department also maintains its own Emergency 911 Center. This is a valuable asset of the department due to the distance between West Yellowstone and the rest of the municipalities in Gallatin County. When someone in West Yellowstone dials 911, it is answered by a dispatcher in West Yellowstone instead of 90 miles away in Bozeman. The Town recently completed an addressing project that assigned street addresses to every building in Town. The purpose of this project was to create a uniform addressing system and improve emergency response.

The West Yellowstone Municipal Court operates daily. The court is staffed by a part–time Judge and a full–time Clerk of Court. The court handles an annual caseload of approximately 350 criminal cases and 250 civil cases or traffic infractions.
